Cricket in Kenya

History
Cricket in Kenya has had to pass through its pioneering stages. The game was first played in Mombasa in 1896 and cricket in the country set off international in 1951 when inter-territorial party started between Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The 50's were an especially important role in the development of the sport, which saw the formation of the national body and the referees association to help run the game in a more structured way.

In 1966, Kenya became a member of the Conference of East African Cricket (EACC) and participated in its annual tournament run that included the three countries of East Africa and Zambia. The tournament played in every country concerned by the rotation of Kenya saw him win nine of the 15 races between 1960 and 1980. This accessory EACC and reputation brought recognition to ICC in 1975 when East Africa participated in the first World Cup in England. Kenya provided seven of the 14 players for the team and manager.

Given Kenya dominated the East African cricket largely considered that Kenya should join the International Cricket Conference (now the International Cricket Council) in its own right and in 1981 broke away from Kenya and the same year EACC were accepted as members of the International Criminal Court Having taken part in the 1979 ICC Trophy as part of East Africa, Kenya, in 1982, 1986 and 1990 took part in their own right, reaching the semifinals in 1990, its better than ever .It was during this period that indigenous peoples of Kenya cricketers began to emerge on the scene and first-class cricket was being played at Turf Wickets.

In February 1994, Kenya hosted the fifth ICC Trophy in Nairobi, 20 associate member countries involved and Kenya did well to reach the final, finishing second behind the United Arab Emirates and in doing so qualified for the Cup World 1996, along with UAE and third-placed Holland. A memorable victory over two-time champions West Indies in the World Cup in Pune, India will endure in the hearts of cricket lovers and served as a reminder of the progress of Kenya had been doing.

Kenya participated in another ICC Trophy in Malaysia in 1997 and finished second to Bangladesh in an entertaining final and earned his domain ODI status and automatic qualification to World Cup future. The country was to see a lot of international cricket because of the situation ODI, playing against the Test nations at the site of the World Cup 1999, which failed to impress after his exploits in 1996.

But it was not until 2003 in South Africa, Kenya, which made the world stand up and take note when it became the first and only nation that has partnered to reach the semifinals of the World Cricket Cup beating the test nations Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, World Cup 1996 Champions in the process.

Cricket Kenya was going through a metamorphosis of losing key players through retirement and a change of guard at the helm in the run up to the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies, where he only managed a final phase group after an impressive performance in South Africa four years earlier and asked him to go through qualifying to earn a spot in the World Cup 2011.

In 2004, the ICC was the launch of a tournament first-class, the ICC Intercontinental Cup is designed around two sets of three-day format. The event has become an eight-team tournament, round-robin and truly global four-day cricket which gives those teams who do not play Test cricket the chance to experience the longer form of the game.

Intercontinental Cup has quickly in stature and profile since its inception four years ago and is now an integral part of the cricket Associate Members. Scotland won the first ICC Intercontinental Cup in 2004, beating Canada in the final, while Ireland has been victorious in three events since then, beating Kenya in the deciding game of 2005, Canada in 2006 case -07 and Namibia in the 2008-09 event.

ICC was the launch of another event, the summit of the Associate and Affiliate nations, the World Cricket League. Division of an event in which the six partner countries through the classification, held in Nairobi in 2007 were Bermuda, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, Holland and the Kenyan hosts to all who were ready to compete in the World 2007. Kenya won the event beating Scotland in the final after losing to them in the group stage of the tournament and in the process of earning a place at the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup Cricket.

Kenya began its campaign to qualify for the ICC World Cup in South Africa on a sour note losing to Holland by 7 wickets and revive themselves in to win all their remaining matches of the group to take top honors in the face the crucial Super Eight stage and after a disappointing loss to Canada overcame a stubborn Scotland and then went to Namibia but beat eventual winners Ireland to secure a top four finish and with it the crucial place in 2011 World Cup.

The Kenya Under-15 won the first tournament in East Africa in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania in 2001, while U-17 team were runners-up in 2003 in a tournament in East Africa in Kampala, Uganda. The U-19 made semifinals in Windhoek, Namibia, the same year the Court of East Asia Pacific / Africa U/19 World Cup qualifiers, before repeating the feat in 2005, but eventually made the Region Africa for the ICC U/19 final qualifiers but were denied a place in the World Cup Namibia in southern Africa, where only a qualified team compared to the previous case, when the two teams went. The last event was the Under-19 qualifiers in Zambia, where it just so.
